Yakov Malik, Soviet ambassador, opens Chess Congress
Dec. 12, 1955 - Hastings International Chess Congress.: The 31st Hastings International Chess Congress was opened today by the Soviet Ambassador Yakov Malik, in the Sun Lounge, Marina, St. Leonards-on-sea. Photo shows Mr. Malik, the Soviet Ambassador, putting an orchid spray into his top pocket today. The spray was handed to him by the Mayoress of Hastings, Mrs Hussey (L) for Mrs. Malik, who was unable to attend today's opening ceremony at Hastings today
