Blitz in London -- emergency water mains for firefighting
Blitz in London -- frequently water mains were damaged or destroyed by enemy bombing. Emergency water mains were laid, over ground, to which fire hose could be connected. Here London firefighters and senior fire officers are inspecting an array of connections for hose lines. The emergency water main discharges into a substantial emergency dam and the flow can be controlled by the wheel of the valve on the main going into the dam
