LCC-LFB fire, Goodge Street deep shelter

Two LCC-LFB firemen, wearing breathing apparatus, at the Tottenham Court Road end of the Army transit centre located in the deep shelter tunnel system. The fire has been extinguished. The tunnel, some 1200 feet long (365 metres), contained combustible construction which fuelled a fierce blaze. The lack of ventilation, deep underground, retained the heat for extended periods of time. Note the heat and smoke damage to the ceiling
