London Fire Brigade street fire alarm and telephone point
In 1904 the Metropolitan Fire Brigade changed its name to the London Fire Brigade. Less than one year later it was possible for crews to call in to Southwark Headquarters from a remote point, using a street fire alarm call point. In this way urgent requests for assistance could be relayed, as well as information about firefighting operations and general backup support required, especially at major fires
