Major blaze at waste tyre dump, Mitcham, Surrey

Even though WW2 was over, the NFS continued until 1948. The London Region covered the Greater London including Mitcham, Surrey, where this major fire broke out at a used rubber tyre dump at Carshalton Road on 2 June 1947. The firefighters efforts are rewarded when thick black smoke turns white as water extinguishes the flames and turns to steam
