King Edward VII (then Prince of Wales) as an amateur firefighter. Accompanied by some of his friends, including the Duke of Sutherland and Lord Arthur Somerset, the King would go to fire stations in Chandos Street or Watling Street and wait for a call'. One of the men on duty at the great King and Queen Granaries Fire told how the King shared in the work against the flames
