The King's Champion at the Coronation Banquet
Impression of the King's Champion entering Westminster Hall during the State Banquet following the Coronation of King George IV in 1821 as observed by Sir Walter Scott. Traditionally, the Champion of England would ride on horseback into Westminster Hall and challenge all who dared to impeach the title of the new sovereign, though the Coronation of George IV was the last to see the ceremony played out
