Dr. Elisabeth Boyko
Dr. Elisabeth Boyko (1892-1985) - Austrian-Israeli botanist noted for pioneering the use of salt water for irrigation of desert plants in Israel. Along side her husband Professor Hugo Boyko, a German-born Israeli scientist, the Boyko's were among the first to argue for environmental issues to be treated as global security concerns. Their work with WAAS (World Academy of Art and Science) reflected their belief in peaceful cooperation through knowledge. The husband and wife team received the prestigious Fleming Award in 1959 for the advancement of human welfare through outstanding achievement in science and the William F. Petersen Award from the International Society of Biometeorology
