Motley Theatre Design, Sophie and Margaret Harris

Two of the three members of the Motley Theatre Design Group -- Sophie Devine (nee Harris) (1900-1966) on the left, and her sister Margaret Percy Harris (1904-2000) on the right. The third member, not seen in this photograph, was Elizabeth Wilmot (1902-1993). They are seen here working on a design project. The Motleys collaborated with John Gielgud during the 1930s, designed sets and costumes for theatre and film projects over several decades, and won two Tony Awards for their work
