W H Ell's Safechek gold changer
W H Ell's Safechek gold changer, circa 1890. Made from solid mahogany with brass fittings. These changers were bolted down and used to change a gold sovereign into 20 shilling or a half sovereign into 10 shillings. The door has a working key and opens to reveal the interior where the boxes of change are stacked, which were dispensed via the brass drawers. The drawer is opened with the removal of a brass pin above the letter "t". The base measures 8 1/4" wide x 7 1/4" and stands 12 1/2" tall
