Bardelys The Magnificent, by Henry Hamilton and Rafael Sabatini, from Sabatini's novel (1906). First produced at the Theatre Royal, Birmingham, August 1910, then the Globe Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London, February 1911. Lewis Waller (1860-1915) was the leading matinee idol of the day. Other cast members were Lottie Venne, Madge Titheradge and William Haviland. The play is set in France in the reign of King Louis XIII, the period of The Three Musketeers
