 : Clancarty by Tom Taylor

Clancarty by Tom Taylor

Clancarty by Tom Taylor. First produced as "Lady Clancarty" at the Olympic Theatre in London on 9th March 1874. Lewis Waller as Lord Clancarty and Evelyn Millard as Lady Clancarty are shown in costumes of 1696, when the play is set. A remarkably late revival at the Lyric Theatre in London on 16th April 1907. Underneath the image (which is an illustration) it states that the photo is by Ellis and Walery, so presumably the image is based on a photograph. Ellis (1854 - 1930) specialised in theatrical photography and took a leading role in protecting the Copyright of photographers, fighting several cases in the High Courts. He was one of the founders of the Copyright Union
