Louis XI by Dion Boucicault
Louis XI by Dion Boucicault from the French of Casimir Delavigne. First produced at the Princess's Theatre, 13th January 1855. Wicked old King Louis (H. B. Irving) is being threatened by the Duke of Nemours, whose father he has had executed (Act IV). The reverse gives H. B.'s wife, Dorothea Baird almost equal billing. Already an old fashioned melodrama when H. B.s father, Sir Henry, played it in 1878
