First produced Theatre Royal, Cambridge 14th November 1883 and Prince's Theatre, 29th March 1884. The protagonist, Rev. Robert Spalding - his name is on the hatbox - emerges from a chest in Act III. His "goods and chattels" with which he seems obsessed, are scattered on the floor. For the revival at the Apollo Theatre. Another copy for the same production revived at the Savoy Theatre, 22nd December 1917
