It was written by Hugh Willoughby Sweny with music by Alfred Lee, but its popularity was associated with the singer, the Great Vance'. The lyrics refer to walking in London Zoo on a Sunday, which was a particular privilege afforded to only members of the Royal Zoological Society as it was closed to the public on a Sunday
