Statue of the Ancient Mariner at Watchet, Somerset, unveiled in September 2003 as a tribute to the 19th century poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge who lived in the nearby village of Nether Stowey. T sight of Watchet harbour inspired him to write his long narrative poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner: Ah ! well a-day ! / what evil looks / Had I from old and young ! / Instead of the cross, the Albatross / About my neck was hung
