Alexander the Great: the marriage of Europe and Asia
Alexander the Great celebrates the symbolic union of Europe with Asia with a five day wedding feast, in which he and 92 of his generals wed Persian noblewomen. The author Athenaeus describes how the hall was furnished with 100 elaborately decorated couches, sumptous wall hangings and pillars set with precious stones
