Assassination of Henri III
The fanatical Domincan friar, Jacques Clement, presents King Henri III with false papers before stabbing him in the abdomen and killing him. Clement was killed immediately by Henri's men, and the King died of his injuries the following morning, bringing to an end the rule of the Valois dynasty in France
