Beating the bounds of the parish, St Clement Danes, London
Beating the bounds of the parish, St Clement Danes, City of Westminster, London -- a custom dating back to Roman times, thought to be a survival of the Terminalia, or festival of Terminus. Once a year the parish officials walk round the parish boundaries with the choristers, who beat the boundary marks with long rods.
