Cartier at Gaspe
Jacques Cartier sets up a cross at Gaspe. On his exploration of Canada for France, Breton explorer Cartier lands at Honguedo, and is met with the St. Lawrence Iroquoians. A priest kneels in worship in front of a 10 foot high cross Cartier had planted, and Cartier stands behind him, helmet in hand and head bowed, holding a French standard. All expedition members kneel behind him in prayer. 3 Iroquians sit watching the proceedings
