Field-Marshal Earl Roberts
Frederick Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts (1832-1914), Anglo-Irish soldier and one of the most successful commanders of the Victorian era - notable for his actions during the African wars. Colonel-in-Chief of the Forces from Overseas at the start of WWI - Roberts died of pneumonia at St Omer, France, on 14th November 1914 while visiting Indian troops fighting at the front.
