Fire at the Maharani's Palace at Mysore

On 28th February 1897, the Palace of the Maharani of Mysore was destroyed by fire. A pandal (canopy) that had been erected in the courtyard for the wedding guests of the Maharani's daughter, caught fire and collapsed but the flames had already spread to the Palace and within three hours the principal buildings were gutted. About ten lives were lost and only a small portion of the Palace was saved
