Georges Cuvier (Jean Leopold Nicolas Frederic Cuvier) (1769 - 1832), French naturalist and zoologist, founder of comparative anatomy and palaeontology. In 1819 he was raised to the aristocracy for his contribution to science, and became known as Baron Cuvier
