German fresh water vessels, WW1
A cross section illustration of a river gun boat, built by the Vulcan-Werke in Germany shortly before the war, used to patrol waterways in Belgium and Northern France. Drawing bare 2 feet of water, her hull, a mere pontoon, was 150 feet long and usually built in sections suitable for transportation which could be assembled while afloat should there be a lack of docking facilities at her destination. Her crew of 32 men were accommodated in hammocks on the battery dock
