A year after the Battle of the Somme, King George V pictured on the front cover of the Graphic inspecting all that remained of Thiepval Church, a piece of shapeless iron-work. The King motored to the battlefield where he visited the Bazentins, Longueval, High Wood, Delville Wood and many other famous places. He also saw the ruined chateau at Thiepval and the fortresses won by British troops
