The Orb and other coronation regalia
The Orb or Mound is of gold ornamented with jewels. On the top is a large amethyst, surmounted by a jewelled cross. It is an emblem of sovereignty and is handed to the monarch before the crowning. The Sword of State has a guard, hilt and pommel of gilt metal. The blade is enclosed in a velvet scabbard. The Sword of Mercy or Curtana has no point
