Pedro Fernandez de Quiros sails in search of Australia

PEDRO FERNANDES DE QUIROS, Portuguese navigator, sailed from Peru, in search of a southern continent, and discovered the New Hebrides, thinking it part of what was later called Australia (from the name he gave it, Terra Australis del Espiritu Santo).
