Perseus and Andromeda - Edmund Dulac
Andromeda, daughter of the King of Ethiopia and Cassiope, tied to a rock as sacrifice in hope of appeasing the wrath of Poseidon (who is angered by Cassiope's boasts), is saved at the eleventh hour by the arrival of the handsome adventurer Perseus, who severs the beast's head in one swipe with his herpe (sword) and, when challenged by Andromeda's betrothed, Phineus, reveals the head of Medusa turning them to stone. Perseus and Andromeda live happily ever after
