Queen Mary Ocean Liner, work resumed

John Brown and Company in Clydebank in Scotland, begin the major task of constructing Queen Mary Ocean Liner then know as Hull Number 534, which began in December 1930 on the River Clyde, but work was halted, due to the Great Depression of the 1930s. Finally after two and half years of the Ocean Liner Queen Mary being idle, work resumed. Work on the Ocean Liner, was good news for many districts far removed from Clydebank. It was reckoned that, apart from the 3, 800 men busy on the ship herself when the work stopped, 10, 000 others were directly occupied on one of the many contracts or sub-contracts in foundaries up and down the country
