Isaac Strain's expedition across Columbia to map the Isthmus of Darien, for plans to construct what would be the Panama Canal. A boat reaches waits at the shore as the rescue party reaches and checks up on the remaining members of the expedition. The Strain expedition party were lost, separated, ill-equipped, and frequently ill. 6 of the 27 members died of starvation
