The Sacrifice at Lystra, after a cartoon for a tapestry by Raphael, Italian renaissance artist. At the time the cartoon was in an exhibition at Hampton Court, West London. It shows the New Testament story when Paul and Barnabas, after curing a lame man, are mistaken by the people of Lystra for the local gods, Jupiter and Mercury. They prepare to sacrifice an ox to them, but Paul tears his clothes in dismay, admonishing the Lystrians for their idolatry
