Sieur de La Salle assassinated by his own men
On an expedition to locate the Mississippi river, Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, is shot by Pierre Duhaut and three others after a large mutiny by La Salle's expedition party. La Salle lies dying in a clearing, Duhaut and the other men having shot him from some bushes further off; a monk looks on in shock
