: Twelfth Night Entertainment at the Hanwell Lunatic Asylum

Twelfth Night Entertainment at the Hanwell Lunatic Asylum

Inmates of the Hanwell Lunatic Asylum, a pioneering institution for the Victorian age which operated a non-restraint policy, dance together joyfully in one of the decorated wards on the evening of January 6th 1848 (Twelfth Night). They are watched by other inmates who are seated contentedly at tables enjoying a meal of roast beef, vegetables and beer. Visitors to the asylum observe the merriment.~~
