University of Virginia, Charlottesville - Lawn and Rotunda

The Lawn (part of Thomas Jefferson's Academical Village) at the University of Virginia, a masterpiece of Palladian architecture, with The Rotunda as the focal point at the north end of the site. The inset engraving on the left depicts the Storming of the Redoubts during the Siege of Yorktown in 1781, the last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War, whilst the inset on the right depicts the surrender of Cornwallis which ended the Siege
