Thomas George Thomas, 1st Viscount Tonypandy (1909-1997), British Labour Party politician, MP from 1945 to 1983, best known as Speaker of the House of Commons from 1976 to 1983. Seen here as a young man, speaking to a group of people with placards campaigning for democracy in Greece. The League for Democracy in Greece was established in October 1945, and Thomas went on a fact-finding visit to Greece in 1947
