Gordon McLennan, communist and political activist
Gordon McLennan (1924-2011), former leader of the Communist Party of Great Britain, its National Organiser 1966-1975 and its General Secretary 1976-1989. When the CPGB was dissolved in 1991 he joined the Communist Party of Scotland. Seen here (second from left) taking part in a demonstration, with placards: US Hands Off Nicaragua'. The USA had been supporting right-wing armed contra attacks against the Nicaraguan government. This culminated in a case at the International Court of Justice in 1986, which ruled in favour of Nicaragua
