Guernica City of the Dead
Guernica City of the Dead. (Text on back of photo) Desolation after ruthless bombing which killed women and children. Pounded by hundreds of bursting bombs, hurtled from the skies by relays of rebel planes, Guernica "holy city" of the Basques, is now a city of the dead. Not one building escaped the pitiless rain of high explosive which killed many women and children. The Basques claim that the raid was ordered and carried out by German volunteers. Photo shots: Ruined buildings and streets piled high with debris in Guernica. HOL. May 1st 1937
