Frank Castle Froest, policeman and crime writer
Frank Castle Froest (1858-1930), Metropolitan Police Superintendent and (on his retirement) crime writer. Seen here in a science laboratory or workshop. Froest joined the Met Police as a constable in 1879 and by 1894 had become Inspector 2nd Class at Scotland Yard. He was instrumental in founding the Met Police's Photographic Branch (circa 1901), became Chief Inspector in 1903, and served as Superintendent of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from 1906 to his retirement in 1912. He was involved in the investigation and arrest of Dr Crippen in 1910. His crime stories include The Grell Mystery (1913), The Crime Club (1915), and The Rogues Syndicate (1916)
