Photograph: Indian troops of the 17th Division in Payagyi during the last few miles of the advance on Rangoon, April 1945. One of five official photographs associated with Burma, April to June 1945. Associated with World War Two, Far East (1941-1945). The 17th Division had the distinction of serving almost continually in Burma during the three year long campaign. This included practically every major action of the campaign from the retreat to Imphal, crossing of the Irrawaddy and the advance down the Chindwin towards Rangoon and final victory
