1943/4 Thailand - POW Railway. Punishment with 4 gall container 3/4 full of water or stones. Watercolour with some pen and ink, signed lower left, ?Chalker?, by Gunner Jack B Chalker (1918-2014), Royal Artillery, 1945 (c). Full length figure of a near naked prisoner tied to a bamboo stake with a heavy rough tin container tied around his neck and Japanese guards beyond, Ban Pong Camp, Thailand.Associated with World War Two, POWs Far East (1941-1945).Chalker recalls observing such a torture on arrival in Ban Pong Camp in October 1942. The tin container was filled with stones or water, when the neck was straightened the jagged edge of the tin lacerated the chest?he was in great distress
