C. Harris feeding Galapagos tortoises, 1898
Sailor and explorer Charles Harris was despatched to the Galapagos islands to collect giant tortoises for Walter Rothschild in 1897. His expedition overcame a number of hurdles including disease, bad weather and difficulties in keeping the tortoises alive before they arrived in Tring Park, Hertfordshire via the USA
