The Banqueting House, Whitehall, City of Westminster, London
The Banqueting House, Whitehall, City of Westminster, London. The grandest and best-known survivor of the architectural genre of banqueting houses, and the only large surviving component of the Palace of Whitehall. Important in the history of English architecture as the first structure to be completed in the classical style of Palladian architecture - designed by Inigo Jones in a style influenced by Andrea Palladio. The Royal United Service Museum moved to the Banqueting Hall in Whitehall and some additional buildings alongside it in 1895. The Banqueting Hall was later reclaimed by the Government, and the museum closed and the collections were dispersed in 1962
