HMS Doris

HMS Doris, launched in March 1896. Eclipse Class cruiser - present during the Boer War - ship's guns used at Magersfontein in 1899 during the Second Boer War, South Africa. The Battle of Magersfontein (11th December 1899), on the borders of the Cape Colony and the independent republic of the Orange Free State, was a Boer victory which halted the advance of British forces aiming to relieve the Siege of Kimberley
