Clyde Pangborn's Bellanca Skyrocket monoplane, which he belly-landed at Wenatchee, Washington State, on 5 October 1931, to complete the first non-stop aeroplane flight between Japan and the USA. He had dropped the landing gear into the ocean shortly after takeoff in order to lighten the aircraft. Photograph taken three days after the landing, on 8 October
