Boys military band at Erdington Cottage Homes, Birmingham. As well as the boys and their instruments, the picture includes the Union Chairman (left), the bandmaster (centre) and the Homes Superintendent Mr Bryan (right). The homes were opened in 1899 by the Aston Union to house pauper children away from the workhouse. The band performed at local events such as fetes
