Dr Barnardo's Village Homes for Girls at Barkingside, Ilford, Essex. The homes were opened 1876 as a cottage homes development with the girls living in family groups under the supervision of a house parent in each cottage. This view from the church tower, apparently taken on an open day, shows Barnardo's grave marked by a white cross
