Fire drill at John Groom's Orphanage and Crippleage opened in 1890 at Clacton in Essex. Groom was a London engraver and evangelical preacher, whose concern for poor and disabled flower-sellers, and for deprived and orphaned children led him to set up his charitable Crippleage and Flower Girls Mission
