Fire station, fire engine, ladders and uniformed firemen at the Quarriers children's homes, Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire. The cottage homes were opened in 1878 by William Quarrier, a successful shoemaker from Greenock, who developed an interest in the welfare of deprived street children
