Boys band at Holborn Schools, High Street, Mitcham, Surrey - originally established in 1856 in the grounds of Eagle House. The Schools provided accommodation, education and industrial training for pauper children away from the main workhouse. The band, which performed at local functions, led to a career for some as military bandsmen
