Industrial School for Girls, Sale, Cheshire
The Manchester Branch Industrial School for Girls, erected in 1870 on Northenden Road, Sale, for 100 girls. From 1933, it became an Approved School. Industrial Schools, often privately run, housed children aged 7-15 placed there by magistrates for a variety of reasons such as vagrancy, begging, disrupting schools, or living with prostitutes
